Green is a son of William Carroll Gideon and Matilda Hawkins born at Clinch, Hawkins County, Tennessee. Online sources say he married Jane Winningham (or Fleetwood) 1825-1880.

Green, 34, was a member of the Greene County Regiment of the Missouri Home Guard when he was mustered in to the Union Army November 30, 1861, at Camp Weston near Rolla, MO. On December 3, 1861 Green was transferred from Company G to Company D, sick in hospital tent. He died from "fever" (Rubeola). I believe he died at Rolla, burial site unknown.

After his death, the 1870 Finley, Christian County, MO Census lists his wife Jane Gideon, 45, with children: Joshua, 20; Matilda, 18; Margarett, 16; Camada, 14; Founton, 12; Asker (Oscar), 10; Amanda, 8; Consten, 7. Jane's personal property is valued at $300.
