Loren L. Atkinson, 82, of Chrisney, Indiana passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020 at the Linda White Hospice House in Evansville. He died peacefully, surrounded by his children who already miss him greatly. Loren was born on February 15, 1938 to Allen D. and Anna Lee (Esterline) Atkinson.

He was a graduate of Chrisney High School and Lockyear Business College. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force Reserve. Loren was a dutiful provider for his family, having retired from Alcoa's Warrick Operations after many years of loyal service. His passion was for farming, however, and he enjoyed viewing and continually improving his farmland, as well as restoring his tractors and other implements, until very near the time of his death.
Loren was a Freemason and a member of Bloomfield Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Loren was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2016, and was initially told he could expect to live approximately eight months. His determination, his appreciation for life, and good medical care enabled him to carry on bravely and effectively for over three years. In every aspect of life, he was a pillar of strength.

Loren is survived by his three children: daughter Valerie Jayne Parrish (Jason) of Evansville; and sons Mitchell C. (Tamara) and K. Vincent, both of Newburgh. Also surviving is his brother, Ray, of Boonville, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and longtime friend, Pat Kramer.

In addition to his parents, Loren was preceded in death by his wife of twenty years, Carole (McQueary) Atkinson.

Loren's family would like to express their appreciation to his oncologist, Dr. Maqbool Ahmed and the staff at the Chancellor Center for Oncology for their most capable and compassionate care of their dad. Much appreciation is also expressed for the Linda White Hospice House and their staff for having made a short time there much more grace-filled.

A celebration of Loren's life will be on Friday, June 5, 2020 at 2 PM, with burial following in Bloomfield Cemetery. Rockport American Legion Post 254 will provide military honors. Visitation will take place from 10 AM until the time of service on Friday, with a Masonic service at 1:45 PM.
