Mrs Hattie Caldwell, 69 years of age died at noon Tuesday at the residence of her son, R B Cakdwell, 2819 College avenue. She is survived by three sons, R B Caldwell of Fort Worth, J W Caldwell of Athens, and R A Caldwell of Corsicana, and one daughter, Mrs W B Hodge of Corsicana. The body will be sent to Corsicana today by Undertaker Spelman, where funeral services will be held.

The remains of the late Mrs Hattie Caldwell reached here last night from Fort Worth, accompanied by her son, Rufus Caldwell and wife, A G Caldwell and her son-in-law and daughter Mr and Mrs Blount Hodge, and the funeral took place this afternoon at 4 o'clock from the home of A G Caldwell, 1555 West Third Avenue, with interment in Oakwood. Rev B W Vining officiated and the following were pall bearers: Active, Geo E Jester, R N Elliott, W B Sweatmon, C L Matthews, J S Millerman and Bryan Cheney. Honorary, W P McCammon, C L Jester, E S McGee, W M Peck, B K Duncan, Geo F Miller, C E Lee, J L Halbert, C H DeLafosse and J H Millerman.

Hattie was the daughter of Sibba Hurst, born about 1819. The name of her father is unknown. She had at least 2 younger siblings, Mary and James David. She also had 3 step-brothers, Charles Marion Leathers, James Newton Leathers and John Simpson Leathers. Hattie's mother became the 2nd wife of John Benjamin Leathers by 1870 when they are found living in Pontotoc Co MS. Her mother died after 1900.

In 1900, Hattie reported to the census taker that she had given birth to 5 children, 4 of whom were still living. The deceased child might possibly be Ada Caldwell who is buried in this cemetery.
