She married Jack Shofler on February 3, 1956. They shared 64 years of marriage.
Vela worked at Elder's Shirt Factory, U Do-We Do Laundry and USPS, in Carl Junction, where she retired. She loved to play bingo with her twin sister Mary Lou. She loved her children, grandchildren, and thought the great- grands were the best.
Vela was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kenny; a sister, Patty; and a brother, Glen.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; daughters, and sons-in-law, Vicki and Roy Viele, Chris and Calvin Taylor, Kathy and Glenn Simmons; daughter-in law, Carol Shofler; her twin sister, Mary Lou Hayes; a sister, Judy Courtright; grandchildren, Dustin (Amy), Tedi(Phillip), Curtis (Lacy), Kim (Shane), Jason, Joey(Marlena), Eric (Marci), Brittany, Micah (Lindsey), Jonathan (Beth), Jordan (Kyle); and 28 great-grands; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a very special thank you to Cathy Cook.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 10, at 1 p.m. at Carterville Cemetery, with Rev. Johnny Wilkins officiating. Open viewing will be held between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home, in Webb City.
