Stella entered this world on September 27, 1918 to parents, Louis and Josephine (Bielak) Maciag. Born in Detroit, Stella grew up in the rural town of Ubly, Michigan close to Bad Axe in the thumb with four brothers and three sisters.
She was united in marriage to Granville Francis Hall on June 21, 1941. They were married for 57 years until Francis passed away in 1998. Stella took care of their seven children while Francis worked 12 hour days, almost seven days a week in factories. While they did not have a lot of money, the family never felt poor. Stella kept their house clean and cooked delicious meals for the family. On very special occasions, the family went to Frankenmuth for chicken dinners. Stella never learned how to drive, so her husband would drive her to wherever she needed to go, and later on in life when the children were old enough, they would take their mom out to run her errands. The family eventually settled down in Van Dyke Township in what is now known as Warren. They also owned businesses in Lakeville, Mi. and Houghton Lake, Mi.
Both Stella and Francis were involved in volunteering opportunities with their children’s sports. They also volunteered at their church, St. Paul of Tarsus in Clinton Township. Both Stella and Francis always preached the value of hard work and a family first attitude, and all of their children have lived up to this motto. Stella had a fondness for knitting and crocheting and she made a lot of wonderful projects over the years. Another hobby was gardening which she also loved to do planting flowers, making preserves and canning tomatoes.
At 100, Stella was still going strong, always smiling and laughing. She would still walk around and eat as much as she wanted as well as drinking lots of coffee. She loved singing and dancing. Believe it or not, her activity of choice was folding clothes and towels!
