Griffin.
Mary J. Griffin died Tuesday evening about 10 o'clock at her home on North McArthur street, aged 74 years, 11 months and 15 days. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Christian church, Rev. A. M. Hale officiating; interment in Oakwood cemetery.
Mary J. Herlocker was born Sept. 23, 1834, in Pennsylvania, her parents being Josiah and Margaret Herlocker, early settlers of that state, When 14 years of age she, with her parents, moved to Fulton county this state, settling in Vermont, which was then hardly a hamlet. She lived in Vermont but a few years, after which she came to McDonough county, settling near this city. On March 2, 1854, she was united in marriage to W.Z A. [sic] Griffin, who died some thirteen years ago. In 1885 she removed to this city, where she has since resided. The past eight years Mrs. Griffin has been ore or less of an invalid, suffering with heart trouble and paralysis, which was the cause of her death.
Mrs. Griffin was an ardent member of the Christian church, having been a member of that denomination for the past fifty years. Always a woman who strived to do what was right, of a loving and patient nature, teh [sic] community, as well as frineds [sic] and family, have lost a noble soul.
She is survived by seven children, Mrs. Emma Beatty of Ashland, Neb.; Mrs. Elvira Whitmore of Franklin, Neb.; Henry A. of Bloomington, Ill.; Charlie of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Mrs. Florence McCartney, Lelia E. Griffin and Truman A., all of this city. Besides the children, three brothers survive: Henry of Union, Ia., and George and D. A. of Table Grove.
