The son of Michigan-born Mathias & German-born Mary Boll, in 1860 he was a farm laborer living with his family in Warwick Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Lancaster June 24, 1863, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg June 30 as a private with the six month organization of Independent Battery I, Pennsylvania Light Artillery. He re-enlisted in Lancaster January 2, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg that same day as a private with the three-year organization of Independent Battery I, and honorably discharged with the battery June 23, 1865.
He married Mary E. Hoffman and fathered Mary Elizabeth (b. 11/17/76) and Clarence Edward (b. @1885).

My suggestion is that his father Mathias Boll was not born in Michigan, but in Germany and traveled on a boat to Pennsylvania (as you can see at his memorial, # 222944222). And add Anna Marie Rie Boll (Memorial # 224648165) as his mother.
