Jerome Ackerman, 82, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020. He was the devoted husband of Jacqueline Ackerman. They shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in Newark, N.J. on August 4, 1937, he was the son of Nathan and Eva Ackerman. Raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., he enlisted in the U.S. Army after high school, serving three years in Europe in the mid 1950's.

After the service, Jerry returned to New York and after attending the New York School of Printing, started a 42 year career with the Continental Can Company. There he met his adored wife, Jackie, whom he married in 1959 in the Bronx, N.Y. Together, they raised three sons and after several moves settled in Houston, TX.

Later in life and after subsequent moves to Atlanta, GA and Lake Worth, FL, they returned to the Houston area, residing in Richmond, TX to be closer to family.

Jerry and Jackie were very active in the Sweetgrass community, including their local Havuruh. Jerry took great pride in his service to the Sweetgrass Veterans Club, most recently serving as President, and his ten years of service for the Palm Beach County Sherriff's Office.

While Jerry will be remembered for his years in business and community service, he took great pride in his family. Jerry adored his nine grandchildren with whom he maintained close relationships even though they were spread out amongst Houston, Dallas, New York and Chicago.

Jerry will be remembered for his bright smile, kind spirit, high energy, commitment to service, and love for his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jackie; sons, Darin and wife Allyson, Russell and wife Louise and Shawn and wife, Chi; grandchildren Natalie, Will, Brittany, Ben, Emily, Emma, Owen, Lexi and Sophie. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Arlene and husband Howard Rubenstein and Charlotte and husband Daniel Gorelick.

Due to current restrictions, a small private family service was held at Beth Yeshurun officiated by Rabbi Brian Strauss. He was laid to rest at Houston National Cemetery.
