John also enjoyed being a Boy Scout Troop leader for boys with special needs.

For John, above all was family. John’s love for his wife, children and grandchildren was immeasurable. He easily welled up in tears when speaking about his love for his family. John’s and Retta’s marriage was inspirational to many, teaching those around them that there is no greater gift than true love.

John had a natural way of bringing people together and formed many lifelong friendships. He loved entertaining and hosted several epic parties over the years. A big-hearted man, he treated his children’s friends as his own. John was a lifelong athlete, playing hockey weekly into his 60s.
