Suggested edit: Thomas was a Tailor, and a talented amateur artist. The family lived in Amherst, Nova Scotia for a time, then returned to Lewisville. (*Note that Lewisville is now Moncton, NB)

At some point, the family moved into the home that Thomas' father, George, had built by hand in 1883.

Thomas & Hazel had 8 children over a period of 20 years. They belonged to the Lewisville Baptist Church.

At one point, they had 5 of their boys serving overseas in WWII. The younger boys had lied about their ages to get enlisted. Tragedy struck when their oldest son, Roland, who was a fighter pilot, got struck down over Germany and killed. At the same time, their son Ken was recuperating in hospital in England after being seriously wounded. When Ken was injured, there was a mix up and the family had originally received a telegram informing them of his death. One can only imagine what they must have been going through at that time.

From my own experience - I never met my great-grandfather Mellish, I would have only been two when he passed and my parents had moved out to western Canada. I heard he was often a stern man. He passed in 1971.

I did have the opportunity to meet Thomas' wife, Hazel, we called her "Grammy" by then (1977). She was lovely. She remained in that old historic house, living with her daughters Margaret and Beryl, until her passing in 1986, at 93 years of age.
