Elbert Hale Wampler, Sr passed away on January 30th 2010. "Ebbie" (as he was known to his friends) was born April 16, 1927 in Galax, VA. His parents were Wythe Fielder and Agnes Scott Wampler of Galax His brother Graves Wythe Wampler of Martinsville, VA preceded him in death.

Ebbie married Margaret Ann (Peggy) Carter in August of 1952. They were married for 54 years. Peggy left his side to join her Lord in 2006. In 2008 Elbert married Bobbie Joe Wilson Jennings of Wytheville, VA.

Ebbie was a father to four sons and a daughter. Elbert Hale, Jr and his wife Karen reside in Coral Springs, Florida with their two sons Elbert III (Trey) and Tyler. In 2008, Ebbie became a Great Grandfather to Trey’s son Joshua Cole.
Carter Wythe and his wife Holly live in Winter Haven, Florida with their two daughters Morgan and Jessica; and two sons Jon Michael and Scott.
George Robinson and his wife Gina, also reside in Winter Haven along with their sons Hunter and Brandon. David Scott lives in Penhook, VA and his son Scott lived in wonderment of Ebbie and Peggy during his early childhood.
Margaret Ann and her husband Bernie Cikovic reside in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida with their son Carter and daughter Sydney.
Also surviing is his sister Kathleen Rollins of Blacksburg, VA. His two brothers are Thornton Garland Wampler and Bernard Campbell Wampler. Both reside in Pulaski and Draper VA respectively.

Elbert worked as Manufacturer’s rep selling furniture in excess of 20 years throughout Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and the DC area. He was then employed with Bassett Furniture as VP of Sales (special accounts) for 25 years. Upon his retirement, he resided in Bassett, VA, Topsail Beach, North Carolina and Winter Haven Florida. Ebbie was active in many civic and educational organizations. Emory & Henry College of Emory, Virginia was a fond interest as he served on the Board of Visitors for the College.

Dad, as he was called, Grand-daddy by his grandchildren, took great delight with all their visits to see him at the beach, home and Winter Haven. Ebbie had a burning desire to serve his faith, as he was an avid supporter of the Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Galax. With the latter being a place where his father often lead services.

Ebbie will be missed for his bigger than life stories and quick attention to support his dear friends. Horses and farms were a way for his escape from the business world. “Horse-trading” was a way of life for Ebbie, as he was a sharp business man, with an eye for value and security for his family.
Dad, you will be missed by family, friends, and the life we live. Godspeed in your travel to eternal rest in Heaven.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church, Bassett, VA with Rev. James Porter and Rev. James Meredith officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time for the service. Interment will follow with a short graveside service in the Felts Memorial Cemetery, Galax, Virginia at 2:00 PM.
