At the age of 84, Marjorie Carol (Folk) Gregory went home to be with her Lord on January 26, 2014. Born May 12, 1929 in Bakersfield CA to Clara Viola Field and Cecil William Folk, in her early years she lived in and around the Bakersfield, Woody and Tollhouse areas. Her family moved to Ben Lomond CA in 1946 and she graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1947 in the top 10% of her class. She met and married Chester Floyd Sharpes in 1948 and they had two children: Carol Lorraine and Christine Louise. Marge married Vernon Lee Gregory on July 15, 1955 and had 4 more children: Lea Ann, Valerie Lynn, Nancy Jane and Bruce Wayne.

Vern and Marge lived in Santa Cruz from 1959 to 1991 when, upon their retirement, they moved to the Oakhurst CA area. Their six kids all attended local elementary schools and graduated from Soquel High School. Marge loved her family and was a devoted homemaker for many years. She later became a CNA and for the next 20 years cared for many others as a Home Health Aid. In 2004, Vernon was diagnosed with colon cancer and passed away in 2005 just shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. In 2006, Marge moved to Fillmore CA and was diagnosed with Alzheimer's shortly thereafter. She lived her last 3 years with the loving staff of Villa Teresa Residential Care in Oxnard CA. She was surrounded by family and loved ones as she lost her 8 year battle with Alzheimer's.

A few of Marge's special favorite things were ice cream and cookies and little kids. She also loved to play the piano and organ and to sing songs with her children. She could be found many a day or night reading books or doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and enjoyed going on walks and watching wildlife and birds. Like her mother before her, once she retired, she began to paint. Marge's favorite platform for painting was watercolor. All of her children have been graced with one or more watercolors for their walls. Her specialty was her favorite flower, the Iris. Marge also loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A devoted Christian, she attended Twin Lakes Church, First Baptist Church of Capitola, and First Baptist Church of Oakhurst.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Gregory; one of her daughters, Christine Lewis; and her siblings; Robert Folk, Cora (Corky) Folk, (Eugene) Donald Folk and Bonnie Demos. She is survived and remembered by her children and their families; Carol and Mark Rathe of Fillmore CA, Lea and Ernie Hull of Chapmanville WV, Valerie and Randy Ebersole of Montara CA, Nancy and Jim Dyck of Happy Valley OR and Bruce Gregory of Bellingham WA. She is also survived by her sisters, Sara and Ray Ward and Lorraine Voight; sister-in-law, Willamae Folk; son-on-law, Jim and Gay Lewis; and 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service to remember and celebrate her life will be at 11 am on Saturday May 17th at Oakwood Chapel 3301 Paul Sweet Road Santa Cruz.
