He was the son of the late Harry Lee and Sadie Simpson Ashworth. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kent Ashworth and Clarence Ervin Ashworth. He was survived by his wife, Linda Peele Ashworth; two sons, Shane Whitt (Karen) and Jamie Ashworth (Christy); four daughters, Mechelle Hash (Shelby), Gail Thomas (Marty), Amy Unger (Matthew), and Julie Crawford (Miles); nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.
