We are sad to announce the passing of Dorothy Ann Prausa of Brown Deer, Wisconsin who was born August 12, 1929, in Iron Mountain, Michigan. Dorothy died unexpectedly on March 29, 2020.
Born Dorothy Ann Neuens, she grew up in northern Wisconsin during the Great Depression and World War II where she married Robert (Bob) Lee Prausa. She worked to help Bob through college then moved with him to his 1st job with the U. S. Forest Service in the backcountry of Idaho. The amenities were sparse, and she talked of living in one room guard stations with outdoor privies, hand pumps for water, crank telephones, and bats walking across counters. She flew in an air tanker during a retardant drop on a forest fire and talked about having a mountain lion stalk her and her 2 sons while out huckleberry picking. After moving every 3 years for different Forest Service assignments, she and Bob returned to Wisconsin in 1970 where they stayed.
Dorothy was always quick to make lasting friends and loved to play cards. Following the devastating death of Bob in a 1990 car accident, she joined a church group of widows who annually took sightseeing trips across the country. With most of her close relatives out of state, she built a local network of friends who became her 2nd family. She loved these friends and her family dearly. She was always on the next plane out for any family member that needed her. She is sorely missed and deeply loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents Martha Neuens (Slater) and Mathias Neuens; her brothers Charles and Matthew; her son Michael; her granddaughter Caitlyn; and her husband Robert.
She is survived by her sons Charles (Nina) and Richard (Robin), four grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Due to COVID 19 limitations, a private Memorial Mass will take place at Our Lady of Good Hope Church, and Dorothy will be buried next to her husband at Hickory Cemetery in Suring, WI.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Our Lady of Good Hope Church in Milwaukee, WI or to the American Cancer Society
