"R. Guy Boatright, 95, 604 E. Oak St., a long time Cushing resident, and businessman, died Sunday, Dec. 16, in the Cushing Municipal Hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. in the first Presbyterian Church with Reverend A. Keith Allison, pastor, officiating. Burial, under direction of the Davis Funeral Home, will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
"Boatright was born April 5, 1885 (sic, actually 1884) near Garnett, Kan. He came to Cushing in 1905, working as a telegraph operator for the Santa Fe railroad. He was married to Atha Ellen McLaury on June 9, 1909 here in Cushing and she preceded him in death on March 2, 1949. He was in the insurance and real estate business here in Cushing for 45 years, retiring in 1957. He was married to Clarice Hurst on September 8, 1950 in Cushing.
"He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder from 1913 through 1956, holding the office of Clerk for many years. He also served as a member of the Oklahoma City Presbytery for 15 years. He was elected. Treasurer of the Cushing Board of Education in 1921 and served in this capacity for 40 years. He was one of the original organizers of Cushing Savings and Loan Association, serving for the first 10 years of its existence.
"He was a Master Mason in 1909, received the Capitular Degree of Masonry at Cushing in 1924 was Commander of the Cushing Commandry Knights Templar in 1937 and he was a member of the Consistory at Guthrie. He was a member of the Cushing Rotary Club from 1921 to 1962 and served as president in 1944-1945. He was a member of the, Cushing Chamber of Commerce during his business years.
