The community was saddened Sunday morning, Oct. 19, to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Ruth P. Lyman at her home after four days' illness with pneumonia. Up to that time she had been in her usual health, and the weekend before her death she spent in Bennington with relatives. Ruth Priscilla (Elwell) Lyman was born in South Shaftsbury Jan. 14, 1856, one of the six children of Dewitt and Sophia (Galusha) Elwell. Three sisters, Henriette, Mary and Flora, and one brother, Courtland, have died, and one brother, Hartland, survives. She spent her early life in her native town, until her marriage to Warren F. Lyman of Dover, which took place in Arlington, Vt., Nov. 13, 1876, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Jule Clinton McCollan of that town. Most of her married life was spent in Wilmington, until last May, when she moved to West Dover. She leaves one son, Clyde Warren, who lives in Salem, N.Y. "Aunt Ruth," as she was called, possessed a very pleasing personality and sterling character, which endeared her to her friends and relatives. She was a kind, loving, hospitable person, ever willing to help others in time of need. Her sense of humor was another trait of her sunny disposition. Besides her son, she leaves four grandchildren, Grace, Earl, Ruth and Warren Lyman; one brother, Hartland Elwell of Whitingham; one aunt, Mrs. Chestina Houghton, the oldest resident of this town and the oldest member of her family; a nephew, Reuben E. Snow of this town, and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral was held at the West Dover Congregational church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. J. Duke King of Rupert officiated. Mrs. Ernest F. Corbett of Wilmington presided at the organ. Merton F. Barber and Mrs. Lula B. Fowler sang Beautiful Isle of Somewhere and House of Many Mansions. The flowers were profuse, and showed the esteem in which Mrs. Lyman was held. Burial was in the family lot at the Cutting cemetery at Wilmington. The bearers were Edward J. Grout, William M. Harris, Leon T. Bogle and Clyde C. Upton. Relatives who came from out of town to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Lyman of Salem, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Stratton and son, Carl, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Harrington, Mrs. Clarence Morse and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Harrington, Mrs. Asa Stratton, Mrs. J.R. Snow, Mrs. Lula Beaton and Mrs. Martha Delaurier, all of Bennington; Mrs. Mattie Lyons and Mr. and Mrs. Frederick C.
