Mr. Short died early yesterday at Vanderbilt university after suffering from cancer for over a year.
A native of Sacramento, Ky., he was a son of David Everette and Tillie Larkins Short. He moved to Nashville 1917 and had been president of the business school since 1927. Through his wide experience in the business world he was able to give guidance to thousands of students, placing many in business careers.
He was married to Annie Laurie Whitehouse of Livermore, Ky., on Nov. 2, 1918, who survives.
Mr. Short graduated from Bowling Green, Ky., business university in 1914 and received his law degree from Blackstone college of law in Chicago in 1919. He was certified as a public accountant in Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana, and was admitted to the bar in Tennessee.
From 1914 to 1918 he taught the Lincoln school of commerce in Lincoln, Nebr., and at Fall's business college here from 1919 to 1924. He was a member of the firm of McIntyre & Short, certified public accountants, from 1925 to 1929.
He was a member of the American Institute of accountants, and had been a member of Lockeland Baptist Church. He was well known for his hobby as a horticulturist, specializing in growing dahlias.
Other survivors are a nephew, Dermot Troutman, who was reared by the Shorts from babyhood; three sisters, Mrs.Lizzie Danner and Mrs. Verona Brewer, both of Depoy, Ky., and Miss Stella Short of Nashville and three brothers, C.L. Short of Nashville, and Edwin and Samuel Short of Depoy, Ky.
