Ruby Muriel Dellisola

WOBURN, MA – Ruby M. (Nemec) Dellisola, 92, a retired nurse passed away at the Woburn Nursing Center on November 25, 2018 following a long illness. Ruby was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, one of five children born to the late Norbert and Lily (Whittle) Nemec. She graduated from Fairhaven High School and went on to graduate from Robert Breck Brigham Hospital School of Nursing, Boston, as a Practical Nurse. She had the “dream job” of being a visiting nurse and travelled throughout the United States. One of Ruby’s favorite locations was in Alaska while serving with the US Public Health Service. There she cared for Native Alaskan children and fell in love with them as well as their culture. She shared many warm memories of her time there with her family throughout the years. In 1968, she married Salvatore Dellisola who was a widower with two children. They lived in Somerville for a period before settling in Medford, Massachusetts. Ruby continued her career as a nurse in nearby Boston hospitals.

Ruby loved arts and crafts. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, and needlepoint. She was active at her local senior center and participated in many trips and activities. The Fall was Ruby’s favorite time of year. She would take trips to Vermont to enjoy the fall foliage, and Halloween was one of her favorite holidays. Ruby also participated in a number of family trips to New York City and New Jersey as well as to Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. Ruby was blessed to have two beautiful granddaughters that were the center of her life. When Dorene and Julie were younger, she would take them on trips to Salisbury Beach, Massachusetts. She was a loving and caring grandmother who couldn’t do enough for them.

Ruby was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore, and was the loving mother of Patricia Dellisola of Stoneham and the late Stephen Dellisola; proud grandmother of Dorene (Bryan) Serrao and Julie (Timothy) Conrad; great grandmother of Sadie and Isabella Serrao and Keira and Stephen Conrad. She was predeceased by her siblings, Alice Plezia, Frank Nemec Hilda Hacking and Ethel Potkay and was the aunt of Esther Blank, Anthony C Plezia, and Dr. Stephen Potkay and the late Craig Potkay. She was the devoted mother-in-law of Charles A Smith.

A visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt 128/I95, Woburn side) on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm concluding with graveside services at Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington at 1:00 pm.
