We are sad to report the passing of Edgar Ed Buxton on Janaury 11, 2003. Edgar was a longtime resident of Bakersfield.

The 83-year-old WWII veteran was born at Broken Bow, Oklahoma, to Anthony Wagner Buxton and Julia Mae Cummings Buxton in 1919. He moved to Bakersfield in 1925 and has lived here ever since.

Ed once owned a sawmill on Fraser Mountain. He later worked various jobs as a truck driver, then as a heavy-duty truck mechanic for Kern Rock Company. After his retirement he did building and ground maintenance for Sunrise Christian School. He also operated a successful firewood company for many years. He was a hunter, fisherman and all around outdoorsman.

Ed was highly respected in the community where he never met a person who he didnt like. A faithful member of the Church of Christ, he was a good, loving father and son who cared for his parents in their latter years. He will be missed dearly.

He was preceded in death by his son, Leonard Peninger. Hes survived by his wife, Viola Buxton and children, Janice Trachier of Waskom, TX, Edgar Buxton of Ballinger, TX, Gerald Buxton of Vacaville, CA, Donald Buxton of Bakersfield, Jim McCormick of Lindenhurst, IL, Robert White of Bakersfield, Karen Powers of Bakersfield, and Terri Killian of Bakersfield, as well as 25 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held for Ed Buxton at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, January 15, 2003, in the chapel at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
