Father: Peter Van Camp, U.E. Loyalist, who died in 1783 at Montreal.

Jacob Van Camp was farming at Saratoga, Albany County, New York Province at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, and as a Tory, was imprisoned at Hartford for five months in 1777. May 16-22, 1780 were the dates of a major expedition to relieve persecuted Loyalists in the Johnstown, New York area. Jacob enlisted on 22 May 1780, and served in the First Battalion of Sir John Johnson's King's Royal Regiment of New York.

Jacob Van Camp, as a disbanded Loyalist - mustered 13 Oct. 1784, Royal Township No. 5, Matilda: Soldier, wife, one boy over age 10, 2 under age 10, and one girl over age 10.
