Oscar Edward Bonner passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, after his mind and his memories were gradually taken away from him. While the number of attendees at gatherings is limited, there will be a private Graveside Service for the family later this week in the Cemetery at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Campground in Perry, GA.
Oscar was born October 26, 1931, in Memphis, TN, to the late Oscar Leonard and Priscilla Jones Bonner. He excelled in school and was the valedictorian of both his Southwest Dekalb High School graduating class and his Azusa Pacific University graduating class. He received a Master’s Degree from Emory University and his Doctorate Degree from the University of Georgia. Oscar had a long, successful career in education teaching French, first at Avondale High School in Decatur, GA, and then at Westminster Schools in Atlanta, GA, from where he retired. He enjoyed travel, good books, the arts, and fine dining. After retirement he enjoyed spending more time with his family and friends and volunteering in various community activities. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, dry humor, colorful commentary, and detailed memory. Oscar was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Daniel Thomas Bonner, Thomas Leonard Bonner, Otho William Bonner, and Charles Wesley Bonner; and one sister, Flora Bonner Smith.
