Edith Maud Stapleton, 83, died Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Reflections Living in Dodge City, Kansas. She was born on May 16, 2020 at Reflections Living in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of Oad Josiah and Hazel Belle (Brown) Thornton.
She worked for Stapleton Salvage and USD 443 as a bus driver. In 1992 she moved to California until 2010, moving back to Dodge City to retire. She enjoyed dancing, painting, sewing, crocheting, arts and crafts, spending time with family and really enjoyed baking cakes.
On August 17, 1937 she married Henry "Hank" M. Stapleton at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City. He survives.
Survivors also include 5 children, Philma Dee (Wilbur) Covalt of Palmer, Alaska, Edith Elizabeth (Stanley) Winn of Dodge City, Mary Lucille (Dennis) Rumbaugh of Minneola, Ks., Donalda Kay (Troy) Weiss of Offerle, Ks. and ALexander "Alex" Henry (Melanie) Stapleton of Minneola, Ks.; 25 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and an extended family member, Carol Fincher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, half brother, Lloyd Thornton, half sister, Helen Oller and a sister, Mona Spencer.
Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be live streamed at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday with Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding.
