Mary (Maria Rosa) Preston Radford Kearny was one of the children born to Dr. John Radford and his wife Harriet Kennerly Radford Clark. Mary's father was killed by a wild boar when she was 5 years old. Mary's mother relocated Mary and her two brothers to St. Louis, Missouri from Lewis County, Kentucky where she met and married General William Clark in late 1821.

Mary was united in marriage on September 5, 1830 in St. Louis, Missouri to General Stephen Watts Kearny. Mary and Stephen were blessed with the birth of at least eleven children, with at least nine surviving infancy, during their marriage:

Mary passed away of senility according to her death record at the age of 87, fifty-one years after her husband General Stephen. Mary was pregnant with their eleventh child when the General passed away.

Additional: Her birth name is Maria Rosa Radford, b: 5, March, 1811, not 1812. She was baptized in 1822 at the St. Ferdinand Church after her mother moved to and married William Clark in St. Louis in late 1821. The Godfather was (Lt)J.F. Hamtramch, (St. Louis war of 1812 hero) and the Godmother was Mother Philippine Duchesne. This is taken directly from the French Baptismal Records of the St. Ferdinand Church in St. Ferdinand in the microfilm records of the Missouri Historical Society in St. Louis.
