John and Maria Armelin had five children. Between December 1918 and January 1919, Maria and four of five of the children succumbed to the Spanish Flu Epidemic. Only daughter, Clara, survived.
Shortly afterwards, John is looking for a Nanny, and how he finds Pearl, I do not know. I don't think he marries Pearl right away. My grandmother told me they traveled a lot. I think John's job took them places.
I think for a very long time they live together and later it turns into something. She begins using his last name right away. But I don't see a marriage record until 1932 in Los Angeles. The 1940 census shows John, Pearl, Clare and her husband and their two children in Los Angeles in 1935 and New York in 1940. In New York, John is Foreman in Tunnel Construction. Son-in-law, Eugene, is in Tunnel Construction also.
In 1945, John and Pearl are back in Sacramento at the house at 1315 Cannon Street. I had been to this house many times, but by then, John had passed away. I really didn't know about John until after Pearl passed away. I was very young going to visit her in Sacramento with my grandmother.
John and Pearl remain on Cannon Street until his death in 1964. By then Clare is in San Diego and has two children. Pearl remains on Cannon Street until her death, and at this time, the whereabouts of her cremains are unknown.

* The kind folks at Harry A. Nauman & Son, who took care of John, confirmed that he is interred in the Mausoleum at this cemetery. Still uncertain about Pearl.
