A. Ralph Kidd, 69, former president for a railroad manufacturing supply company and a World War II veteran, died Monday at Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport, Pa. He was a longtime resident of Strafford until moving to Williamsport about eight years ago.
During World War II, Mr. Kidd served in the military as pilot of a P.
38. According to his daughter, Mr. Kidd in several instances was the lone pilot to survive a mission during the time he fought in the region of New Guinea. He was promoted to captain by the war's end.
Mr. Kidd was born in St. Louis, where he attended high school and Washington University. He moved to Strafford in 1944, where he met and married Evelyn Lamneck Kidd, who died in 1980. Also in 1944, he became the president of A. R. Kidd Co. in Philadelphia. In 1975, he formed Circo, a railroad repair company in Williamsport.
A golfer, Mr. Kidd also enjoyed woodworking and boating. He was a member of the Aronimink Country Club in Newtown Square, the Quar- ter Century Club and the Vesper Club in Philadelphia. "Не "He was a very good piano player who could play any instrument by ear and sing, " said Debbie Brunner of her father. For 25 years, he had hosted the Allentown Band Concert in his home in Strafford. He also was a very active supporter of the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, coordinating benefits on behalf of the organization.
In addition to his daughter, he is survived by his wife, Doris Ayers Kidd of Williamsport; daughter Mary Louise Kidd-Kohrt of Paupack, Pa.; his mother, Ethel Z. Kidd of Marble Hill, Mo., and five grandchildren. Funeral services were scheduled to be held Friday at the Frank C. Videon Funeral Home. Burial was at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
