Residence Bath County VA; 5'10", fair complexion, grey eyes, light hair.
Enlisted on 4/9/1862 at Shenandoah Mountain, VA., he was mustered into Company K, 52nd Virginia Infantry, as a Private.
Hospitalized 7/21 - 8/8/1862 Charlottesville, VA., with "Morbi Varii" (various diseases).
Detailed 8/9/1862 through last Roll in Bath County, VA., nitre caves.
Wounded In Action (spine) 3/25/1865 in Battle of Fort Stedman, VA.
POW 4/3/1865 in hospital in Richmond; confined 4/9/1865 Newport News, VA.; released there 6/15/1865.

Postwar he was a farmer living in Warm Springs District, Bath Co, VA.
Died in town of Hiveley (historic).

The 52nd Virginia Infantry Regiment was organized at Staunton, Virginia, in August, 1861. Many of its members were from Augusta County. It fought at Greenbrier River and Camp Alleghany, and later in Jackson's Valley Campaign. It participated in various conflicts from the Seven Days' Battles to Cold Harbor, marched with Early to the Shenandoah Valley, and was active around Appomattox. On April 9, 1865, it surrendered with 7 officers and 53 men of which 14 were armed.
