He married his neighbor Rosie Shankle on December 23, 1933, when she was 14 years old and they had two children Bob Stephens born February 23, 1936 & Larry Stephens born October 26, 1941. Johnie was the son of Arch Almer Stephens, (DOB 10/18/1884 - DOD 6/25/1975), & Jenn Guffie, (DOB 11/17/1884 - DOD 10/19/1971), who are both buried at Seminary Cemetery, in Weakley County, Tennessee, he was the grandson of Joseph C. "Joe" Stephens, (DOB 1/11/1856 - DOD 7/23/1916), who is buried at Antioch Cemetery, in Gibson County, Tennessee, & Rachel Evaline Hinson, (DOB 1/9/1857 - DOD 4/17/1932), who is buried at Gum Springs Cemetery, in White County, Searcy, Arkansas, he was the great grandson of Ruffin Sanders Stephens, (DOB 11/18/1831 - DOD 10/13/1920) & Nancy Ann Barber, (DOB 11/5/1833 - DOD 5/25/1911), he was the great great grandson of James Calvin Stephens, (DOB 1802 - DOD 1880&1900 - DOD 1900) & Mary M. Manier, (DOB 1806 - DOD 1880), who are all buried at Stephens Cemetery, in Perry County, near Linden, Tennessee.
