Joseph Mozart Jarreau Jr., died at Baton Rouge General Medical Center on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at 1:30 a.m. at the age of 82. He was born March 2, 1929, in Lakeland to Joseph Jarreau Sr. and Innocent Bonaventure. Joseph was called "Junior" by all. He earned his GED while in the U.S. Army. After an honorable discharge, he was employed by the Louisiana Office of Highways. He then worked 34 years for Allied Chemical plant in Baton Rouge. Joseph is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Murrel Jean Kornegay. They are the parents of five children, Vickie Ann Jambon and husband Paul Michel, of Baton Rouge, Stacie Gene Kraft, of Covington, James Wayne Jarreau, of Baton Rouge, and Joseph Mozart Jarreau III and wife Tammy Mix, of New Roads. They are the grandparents of Kristan Smith, April Thomason, Chase Kraft and Wyatt Jarreau. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; his eldest daughter, Leslie Ann Fulkerson; three sisters, Nita J. Bizette, Helta Jarreau and Rose Swindler; two brothers, Lafayette Jarreau and James Wayne Jarreau, who was serving in the U.S. Navy. Visiting at Niland's Funeral Home in New Roads on Friday, Dec. 9, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting continues Saturday, Dec. 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Roads from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial in the church at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Lowell Case. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wyatt Jarreau, Chase Kraft, Gary Cooper, Ricky Bonaventure, Paul M. Jambon and James H. Langlois. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin J. Smith, Charles Jackson, Irvis Pourciau and Mark Allement.
