Born in Gainesville, GA, she married and relocated to Atlanta, where she became the mother of four children. She began her career with the State of Georgia working as a keypunch operator and worked her way to head of payroll for the state. Upon retirement, she married husband Gene Roberts, who shared her love of travel. They spent many years together, visiting all 50 states and many countries. Sarah was the happiest at the beach with her toes in the sand making the name "Sandy" perfectly describe her. She loved her God, her family and her friends and never missed an opportunity to get dressed up and show up for life.
In 2012, Sandy and Gene moved into Delmar Gardens where they enjoyed spending time with their many friends. They were active members of Mableton Baptist Church until their health declined. She is preceded in death by husband Gene Roberts, son Bill Brookshire, step son Dr. John Roberts, daughters in law Teresa Brookshire and Deborah Brookshire and son in law Bill Parker. She is survived by sister, Jamie Jeffords; children Jane McCurley, Judy Parker, and David Brookshire; step-son Doug Roberts; step-daughter-in-law Diane Roberts. She is also survived by her twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A Celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your local church or the American Diabetes Association.
