Mildred Antoniette Gunter

POCAHONTAS -- Mildred "Granny" Antoniette Baucum Gunter was born June 21, 1937, at Memphis but lived most of her life in the Pocahontas area. She died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006.

She was employed by Brown Shoe Co. for 26 years, formerly co-owned Granny's Sew & So of Jonesboro and did alterations for The Dry Cleaner, also at Jonesboro. She was currently the co-owner of Sew & So at Pocahontas. She was a member of Great Harvest Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Judge J.K. and Ruby Baucum; her husband, John D. "Papaw" Gunter; a granddaughter, Christyle Lundry; a grandson, Jamison "Cookie" Matthews; and three brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Matthews of Pocahontas and Becky Lundry Matthews of Jonesboro; a son, John Gunter of Pocahontas; 11 grandchildren, Milissa Matthews and Troy Johnson, Scottie Gunter, Melissa Hendrix, Dave Matthews, Jody Lundry, Jamie Lundry, Douggie Matthews, Cody Gunter, Jennifer Huffman and Wesley Garza; 15 great-grandchildren, Garth, Sadie, Mandy, Eleven, Kajun, Dustin, Zachary, Destiny, Nathan, Sandy, Trisha, Austin, Alex, Destiny and Caroline; and a sister, Audrey Brownfield of Apache, Okla.

The family will receive visitors in the home of Shirley Matthews, 3432 Highway 90 West at Pocahontas.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Paul Craig and Shirley Matthews officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
