Andy Marten, age 59, of Ida Grove, formerly of Battle Creek, Iowa passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Rev. Kevin J. Freese will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Christensen -Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove and Battle Creek, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Andy was born on November 25, 1959 at McCrary Rost Hospital in Lake City, Iowa, to Marion and Verna (Schleisman) Marten. He attended Battle Creek High school and graduated with the class of 1978. Andy also attended North Platte community College for further education.

Andy had a passion for motorcycles and anything mechanical. He was a member of the ABATE group of Iowa for 6 years. He worked as a mechanic for most of his life and enjoyed every minute. Andy was also an avid movie lover and self-acclaimed critic. An outspoken person with defined ideals, he always spoke his mind. Andy was always known for his kind and compassionate spirit towards all children. He was also a master of the grill and loved to cook. Lastly, he treasured camping, boating and fishing at Lake McConaughy with his family and friends.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Verna Marten, his brother Lane Marten, and various aunts and uncles.

He is survived by the mother of his children Elaine Marten, his two sons Jason Marten and family of Tomah, Wisconsin and Steven Marten of Kearney Nebraska; sister Suzanne (Jim) Penn of Wayne, Nebraska; brother Marty (Colleen) Marten of Denison, Iowa; aunt Violet Banner; several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
