He studied chemical engineering at Springfield Junior College, after which he served the United States in various roles, first in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Air Force Reserves, then as a civil servant in the government sector, and finally with FEMA. Bob valued serving others, which he did through his membership with the Knights of Columbus and American Legion. An avid ham radio operator who went by the call name W3IEZ, Bob found great joy in talking to other hams all over the world and was proud to volunteer his services during natural disasters and emergencies. Bob also loved NASCAR and made sure his favorite seat in the house was reserved for big races.
Above all, Bob was a family man of great faith. He loved and honored Wanda (Baxla) Flesch for 64 years, and together, they raised 5 children. Bob worked hard to provide for his family and was quick and enthusiastic about supporting them in raising their own families. His children and grandchildren will treasure memories of hearing his bellowing voice on the sidelines of a sports game; being “stuck” by him in a game of Chinese Rummy; observing him soaking up information at museums, zoos, and national landmarks; or having his help with a school assignment or home project. A devout Catholic, Bob took his lead from God and went home to words of Scripture. May the Lord bless you and keep you, W3IEZ—73s.
Bob is preceded in death by his children Martha Marie, Stephen Paul, Joseph Lee, and Margaret Louise as well as his sister, Rita Ann Barlow. He is survived by his wife, Wanda; children Mary Acosta (Frederick), Marilyn Taylor (Darryl), Michael Flesch (Cheryl), and Michelle Warring (Ernest); 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the local St. Vincent de Paul or to Wounded Warriors.
Arrangements entrusted to Queen of Heaven Catholic Funeral Home, Mesa, AZ.
