Richard Newell, 69, of 390 Seventh Ave., in Galion, died Feb. 24 at the VA Medical Center, Cleveland.
Born Feb. 19, 1926 to James L. and Elizabeth (Gibson) Newell in Wheelwright, Ky., he was a former resident of Marion.
Mr. Newell served in the U.S. Navy as a guard for eight years.
He is survived by a brother, Franklin Newell of North Carolina, and a sister, Marcella Surgeon.
Mr. Newell was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Chaplain Larry Rosen will conduct the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Gunder Hall & Folk funeral director. Calling hours are 5-7 p.m. Sunday.
Graveside services will be conducted by the Marion County United Veterans Council.
