He was a retired farmer and a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church in rural Mahomet, the Oddfellows Lodge No. 704 of Fisher, the Owl Creek Rebekah Lodge no. 91 of Fisher and the Fisher Lion's Club.
He had been a member of the Fisher Fair Board for at least 35 years.
