Mrs. Gladys B. Barger, age 84 of Hueytown, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at a local hospital surrounded by her family. Born May 30, 1927 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Mrs. Barger was employed by the Jefferson County Board of Education over 20 years. A faithful member of Hueytown Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class, Mrs. Barger loved praising our Lord and Savior with gospel music. To sing favorite hymns with family and friends was one of her favorite pastimes. She continued to sing until her illness made it impossible. She was a devoted wife and mother who with her husband provided a loving Christian home to their six children. For her worth is far above rubies. Proverbs 31:10 Mrs. Barger was preceded in death by her much beloved husband, J T Barger; her parents, John Harmon, Annie and B P Parsons; grandson, Kenneth Barger; great grandson, Matthew Barger; and two sisters, Bertha Mae Keane and Hazel Hannah. She is survived by her children, Johnny Barger (Linda), Barbara Crowson (Al), Donald Barger (Kathy), Roger Barger (Cheryl), Kathy McCracken (Rex), and Michael Barger (Lisa); her sister, Ethel Curtin (Oscar); fifteen grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; numerous relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home in Hueytown with visitation on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial to follow the funeral at Highland Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jerry Watts, Troy Watts and Rev. Harris Cook officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Michael Garcia and the Palliative Care Unit at Princeton Baptist Medical Center, the staff of Evercare Hospice, with special thanks to Mrs. Brenda McCracken and Mrs. Pat Capps for the exceptional loving care they provided our Mother during her illness. We will be eternally grateful.
