Aline Lowrie, formerly of Ropesville, died on Dec. 24, 2009, in San Antonio at age 89.

Aline was born on May 29, 1920 in Mena, Ark. to Forrest and Edith (Phillips) Murphy, and she moved to West Texas in a covered wagon as small child.

She was a member of the Church of Christ, she a graduate of Ropesville High School, and she married Leon Lowrie on Oct. 14, 1937. They farmed in Ropes for many years, where she raised her family and taught them about life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; son, Jimmy; son-in-law, Leo; brother, Elton; and two grandchildren.

She is survived by one brother, Delbert Murphy and wife Audrey of Midland; three sons, Lavoid and wife Margaret of Lubbock, Ted and wife Denise of Canon City, Colo. and Cary of Lubbock; one daughter, Wenda Gorman of San Antonio; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at 1 p.m. in the Franklin-Bartley Chapel, and burial will follow at Ropesville Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are suggested in Aline's name to the Lubbock State School Family Association, P.O. Box 10603, Lubbock, TX 79408-3603.
