Samuel E. Moyer "was born August 11th, 1839. His younger days were spent in the school room--teaching. Not finding this calling to his taste, he purchased a farm a little east of Waterloo where he was engaged in farming for a number of years. Some eight or ten years ago he disposed of his farm and moved to Berlin [now Kitchener] where he lives retired. He was first married to Jennet Bigger and after her decease to Rebecca Service [sic].

Samuel Erb Moyer was married to Jane Bigger on September 19, 1865. They had five children:
- Mary Jane (1868-1956)
- Julie (1870-?)
- Henry Arthur (1867-1868)
- Louisa (1870-?)
- Emanuel (1872-1872)

After Jane's death, Samuel married his second wife, Rebecca Ann Servos on May 22, 1873, in Grantham Township (now a part of St. Catharines, Ontario.) Their children were:
- Edith (1874-1909)
- Claude (1877-?)
- Frederick (1878-1878)
