Catherine Kasperick, Rialto
Catherine Anne Kasperick, 19, died Saturday in Riverside of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Sun City. She was born in Independence, Mo., and was an 18-year resident of Rialto.
She was a student at the University of San Diego and had been working as a unit counselor at a Girl Scout summer camp at Camp Tautona near Big Bear. She was a 1978 graduate of Eisenhower High School, where she had been CSF president and student council director of publicity. She had also attended Frisbie Junior High and St. Catherine's, Henry and Morgan Elementary schools.
She was active in St. Thomas Mores Catholic Church, where she served as youth representative to the parish council, lector and played the guitar and sang with the youth choir.
For more than 12 years she was active in the Girl Scouts of America and was awarded the groups highest rank of First Class. She was in the coed Senior Scout program, where she received Catholic Scouting's highest award, the Pope Pius XII medal. She also participated in Scout Wider-Opportunity programs.
Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Kasperick, four sisters, Helen, Teresa, Cecilia and Annamaire, and two brothers, Vincent and Daniel, all of Rialto; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Austin Johnson of Irvine and Dan Kasperick of Helena, Mont.
Private graveside services, under the direction of the Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, Riverside, will be in Rialto Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at St. Thomas More's Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may be made for Masses in her name, as donations to San Bernardino Right to Life, Box 727, San Bernardino, or to the Girl Scouts of America.
