Barbara was born to John and Lucille Hall Moore on October 9, 1935, in Austin, Texas. She attended Austin High School where she was named one of the most “Beautiful” in 1950. She married young and began her career in the medical field at Texas Medical Association. She then spent four decades working in the medical practices of Dr. Clifford Thorne and Dr. George Thorne. Barbara was a proud native Austinite, and she never entered a local store, restaurant, or sporting venue without running into old patients, friends, or relatives. She was also actively involved in the Austin bowling community for over 50 years.
Barbara will always be remembered as a compassionate, giving and (according to her grandchildren) “sassy” lady. She did everything with grace and class. She never left her house without a perfectly coordinated outfit from head to toe. Despite being humble about her cooking, she made many of her family’s favorite dishes that, unfortunately, no one has been able to replicate. She always used a “little touch” of this and a “little dab” of that, and finished with a “big dose” of love. She was a fun, witty granny who loved spending time with her grandchildren. In her most recent years, Barbara also continued fulfilling her love for travel, especially when the trip involved slot machines!
Barbara is survived by her husband, Jimmy Brown; children, Ron Jennings, Randy Jennings, Rene’ Jennings Romell, Darryl McCalmont, Leslie Brown Neitzke, Jamie Brown, and their spouses and families; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Patsy Jennings Schroeder.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ronald “Gene” Jennings and Monroe Burleson McCalmont.
A family graveside service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2020 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks. Please visit www.cookwaldencapitalparks.com to leave condolences and share memories with Barbara’s family.
