Irene Chun Boyson, born October 1st, 1936 in Wahiawa, Hawaii, passed away peacefully in San Antonio, TX on March 23rd, 2012, following complications of a stroke. The 11th of 13 children, Irene spent her childhood on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. After graduating from Leilehua High School, she moved to Northern California, where she worked for several years before moving to Brownwood, TX to attend Howard Payne University. It was there that she met James Boyson, who became the love of her life. They got married the day they graduated from college, in 1963, and were married for 48 years, until Jim passed away in 2011. Irene spent her life teaching third grade, raising her children, volunteering for numerous school and church related activities and organizations, building the library collection at Castle Hills First Baptist School, and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her two daughters, Jamie Boyson, of San Antonio, and Carla Stine, of Springfield, MO, and their children Raylyn Boyson, and Henry Stine, respectively, and siblings Grace Au, Richard Chun, Ed Chun, Alex Chun, George Chun, Charlene Kuwabara, and Polly Sakoda. She will be remembered for being highly creative, opinionated, and spirited. She will also be remembered for her sense of humor and playing occasional pranks on the unsuspecting, including the time she inserted purchased slides of an erupting volcano and burning building into a slideshow about a recent trip to Hawaii, telling guests that the family was forced to escape the hotel they were staying in because the erupting volcano nearby had caught it on fire. A private service will be held in Hawaii at a later date. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Odyssey House, the hospice facility where Irene spent her last days, and where Jim passed away less than one year before. In honor of Irene, the family requests that donations be made to Odyssey Hospice (http://www.gentivahospicefoundation.org/?nd=donate; Gentiva Hospice Foundation, 717 N. Harwood, Ste. 1500, Dallas, TX 75201) or Castle Hills First Baptist School (2220 NW Military Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78213).
