OUTLOOK. John Benson, J.P., of Outlook, died on Thursday at Rochester, where he had gone to consult specialists. A short time ago his doctor suggested that he submit to an X-ray examination; and he went to Saskatoon for that purpose. He was there advised that an operation was necessary; and accompanied by his wife, he went to the Mayo institution at Rochester. Before the time decided on for the operation, he became seriously ill, and died. His son, John, was with him about four hours, before he passed away. The deceased was highly respected by all who knew him. He was born at Walkerton, Ont., in 1866. He went to Crystal, N.D., as a young man, and there married Miss Charlotte Canfield, and there their children were born. In 1908 he bought land west of the river, and at the C.P.R. Outlook sale bought lots and hauled lumber from Hanley to build the first home in Outlook. He was an energetic worker in every matter proposed for the good of Outlook, the first overseer elected when Outlook was erected a village, and continued in that office until the town was incorporated. He was a great supporter of all sports and held office on occasion as president of the First of July sports, the agricultural society, baseball and hockey clubs. As a justice of the peace he had a hand in settling most of the disputes which have arisen in this and neighboring towns. The interment took place at Outlook cemetery on Tuesday afternoon and the funeral service was attended by many friends, many being unable to obtain entrance to the church. So many wreaths and floral symbols were sent that a bank of flowers covered the pulpit platform behind the coffin and all around and over it. The burial took place beside the grave of his son, Howard. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Wesley and John, three daughters, Mrs. Guy Watson, of Indian Head; Mrs. John Soper, of Washington, and Mrs. Georgo Branston, of Sceptre; and two brothers and two Sisters. The Outlook lodge of Odd Fellows took charge of the funeral, with members of the order present from neighboring towns.

John and his wife Charlotte cross the Canadian boarder a on the 17 a scant 6 days before his death. Their stated destination was Rochester, MN for three weeks of treatment. He died on the 22nd at Colonial Hospital in Rochester of Carcinoma of the prostate. Charlotte indicates on the DC that the burial is in Outlook.
