LAKE WACCAMAW — Charles E. (Charlie) Jones, 67, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 at his Lake Waccamaw home after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Doy I. Jones.

He was a 1966 graduate of Portal High school. After high school, he joined the Air Force and completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He served with a unit of the Air Training command at Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois. He later worked and retired as a boilermaker.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 19 at Portal United Methodist Church. Wilmington Funeral & Cremation, 1535 S. 41st Street, Wilmington is handling the arrangements.

He is survived by Betty Slayman Slagle; two daughters, Priscilla Melson and Monique Slagle; his mother, Melrose S. Jones; two sisters, Lynn Bland and Claire NeSmith; one brother, Jack Jones; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, N.C. 28472.
