Mrs. Martha Ramseyer, widow of Daniel Ramseyer, died at the home of her son Peter, in Craig Township last Tuesday night. She was a native of Kentucky, and had she lived until the 19th of next March would have been 91 years of age. Her life was as honorable as it was lengthy. Her husband, Daniel Ramseyer died August 14th, 1877. She was the mother of nine children, the following of whom are living: Frederick, Phillip and Obidiah, Tipton Co, Ind.; Linda, the wife of Dudley Leap, Joseph and Peter who reside in this county. The sad news was telegraphed to her sons in Tipton County yesterday and reply was being awaited as to whether they could come before fixing a time for the funeral.
According to family stories, Martha was born on Indian Creek in Switzerland County, Indiana. She was the daughter of John Hawkins and Massa Truax. She married Daniel Ramseyer on 29 Dec 1825 in Switzerland Co, Indiana. There is only one tombstone in this cemetery and it is Martha & Daniel's, the remainder of the graves in this cemetery are marked with field stones.
