Gordon was killed when his Halifax aircraft # MZ 865 went down in the sea off Sweden during a night mine-laying operation in the western Baltic south of Copenhagen.

Son of Herman and Beatrice Barnes, of Saint John, New Brunswick.

He is also remembered on the RCAF Memorial at Old Holy Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery in Middleton, Nova Scotia.
