Lillian Annis Kircher Neill, a longtime resident of Cayuga Island, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. She was 97. Annis was born in Rochester, NY on July 20, 1922, a daughter of the late L. Morton and Lillian (Sumner) Kircher. In 1944 Annis graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Distinction from the University of Rochester and later earned her Master of Science in Education Degree . In 1945, Annis married Kenneth Bruce Neill, who was serving in the US Army Air Corp at the time. The couple settled in Niagara Falls in 1948 after Ken graduated from Cornell University and secured a job with DuPont.
Annis was employed as a secondary school teacher in Ontario, NY. After moving to this city she began a long career with the Niagara Falls Board of Education as a secondary math and science teacher working for various schools including Gaskill, North Junior and Niagara Falls High School. Annis was a member of the local Teacher’s Union.
Annis was an animal lover and a very gifted, talented and adventurous lady. She spent summers at her cottage on Hatch Lake, where she water skied and taught many people the sport, and rented out cabins. When she retired Annis took a number of continuing education courses and did woodworking and stained glass and electrical work. Annis loved to read, watch TV, knit and crochet and was an amazing caregiver to her husband, Kenneth for ten years, until his passing in 1997.
Annis will be greatly missed by her son, Shawn Neill; her daughter, Marla (James) Bertani; her daughter in law, Carol Cunningham; five grandchildren, Erin, Mikael and Jacob Bertani, Brendan (Marissa) Neill and Casey (Jacob) O’Meritt; four great grandchildren, Eloise and Theodore Neill, James O’Meritt and Bradley Bertani; and numerous nieces and nephews. Annis was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Neill; two children, Nathan Neill, Esq. and Theodore Neill and her siblings, M. Sumner and Eunice Kircher.
The family will be present Friday, February 14 after 1 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where services will be held at 2 PM. The interment will be private in the Webster Rural Cemetery, Webster, NY.
