John Coleman Mahon was the son of William J. A. Mahon, a merchant in Hartford, son of Michael& Bridget (Martin) Mahon. His mother, Bridget Mane (Coleman) Mahon, was the daughter of Michael and Rose (McManus) Coleman of Hartford. John was a grad of Hartford Public High School, attended Yale School of Law 1902-06 (LL B 1906); admitted to Connecticut and New York bars 1906, had engaged in practice of law in New York City since 1906, associated in an editorial capacity with Edward Thompson Company, Northport, L I, about 1907 and with "Cyc" as a writer on special legal subjects 1909. He was former president Midwood Taxpayers Association.
John enlisted as a private, Seventh Infantry, New York National Guard, April 11, 1917, transferred to 165th Infantry, 42d Division, August 5, 1917, served overseas Nov. 12, 1917-April 12, 1919, taking part in the fighting in the Luneville, Baccarat, Champagne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, St Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne sectors. He was with Army of Occupation in Germany after the armistice; discharged May 7,1919.
John was an author of eight books, contributed articles to numerous periodicals. Unmarried.
Buried in Mount St Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, Conn Survived by a sister, Miss Mary Elizabeth Mahon, and a brother, Edward Fullam Mahon (B S Villanova College 1898, LL.B. New York Law School 1907), both of Brooklyn.
