LYLE L. MARTIN, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Thursday evening, April 9, 2020 at Careage Hills in Cherokee.

Lyle was born on February 20, 1931 at Norris, South Dakota to George & Louise (Walter) Martin. He was married to Velma Steward on May 2, 1953 at Storm Lake, Iowa. He was later divorced. He was married to Doris Napier on June 15, 1976 at Junction City, South Dakota. He had a love for auto mechanics. He operated Martin’s Garage for many years. He had worked for Wilson Foods for 29 ½ years retiring from there in 1993. He had also worked at Simonsen’s Inc. in Quimby, Country Side Estates Nursing Home as the Maintenance Director, the Cherokee Mental Health Institute in the maintenance department, and had delivered newspapers for the Cherokee Chronicle Times.

Lyle was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He enjoyed boxing in his younger years, fishing, stock car racing, and working on cars. He was an Amsoil Dealer and was a Conklin Products representative. He and his wife Doris enjoyed going to the county fairs representing their product lines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Byron Martin, a granddaughter Agnes Martin, and his first wife Velma Martin.

He is survived by his wife Doris of Cherokee, Iowa; three children: Louise (Duane) Eades of Longview, Washington; Steve (Louise) Martin of Aurelia, Iowa; Barney Martin of Larrabee, Iowa; four step-children: Janet (Marc) Martin of Brush Prairie, Washington; Joani Napier of Cherokee, Iowa; Mark (Nancy) Napier of Cherokee, Iowa; Craig Napier of Cherokee, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; one great great grandson.
