Memorial services for Leo W. Born, 76, Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Chapel, Topeka. Mr. Born died Wednesday at a Topeka care home and was cremated. Private inurnment will be in Mission Center Cemetery, Topeka.
He was born Oct. 4, 1913, in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School in 1931. He attended Iola Junior College and Kansas University, where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Tau engineering honors fraternities.
Mr. Born began his career as vice president in charge of engineering for Lee Broadcasting Inc. in Mason City, Iowa. He also worked a numerous radio stations in Iowa and Illinois.
He was co-owner of Plaza Television in Topeka for 12 years and was employed for 20 years as a television engineer for WIBW-TV in Topeka.
He married Betty L. Mitchell on March 18, 1949, in Quincy, Ill. She survives.
Other survivors include four daughters, Brenda M. Manske and Shelley J. White, both of Lawrence, Janna J. Larsen and Margo R. Mason, both of Seattle; a son, Mark A. Born, San Francisco; two brothers, Kenneth G. Born, Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Roscoe C. Born, Brinklow, Md.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family has suggested memorials to the Kansas Chapter of the American Arthritis Foundation in care of Doroty Voigt, Topeka, or the American Cancer Society.
