James Doyle Gilkey, 77, of Byhalia, MS, passed away January 30, 2020.

Mr. Gilkey was born on September 28, 1942 in Danville, AR. He was retired from the United States Army, and during his service, he was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star, the Vietnam Service Medal with a Silver Star, the VC of G Medal of Valor, the Army Commendation medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medals twice.

He was also a member of Maples Memorial United Methodist Church in Olive Branch, MS and a member of the VFW Post 684 in Memphis, TN. James enjoyed fishing in his free time. He also enjoyed discussing politics, reading and was a history buff. However, he loved nothing more than spending time with his family and his grandchildren. James loved working on his '66 Chevrolet pick-up truck when he could. James Gilkey was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

Mr. Gilkey was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Virgil Gilkey and Bessie Sarah Rebecca Gilkey; four brothers; and two sisters.
