Eldest son of Nathaniel Collins, Jr, the first pastor of Christ Church in Enfield, CT, and Alice Bradford Adams, the Great-Granddaughter of William Bradford, Governor of Plymouth Colony. Married to Mary Meacham in Enfield in 1728, having 9 children, including his namesake eldest son John in 1730. Fought under the command of Sir William Pepperell alongside his brother, Deacon Nathaniel Collins III, who survived the victorious campaign to seize the French fortress at Louisburg, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia in 1746.
